More than 800 Grade 12 students participated in the first leg of 2017 CATalinuhan, an annual college admission test review administered by UP LAKAN, July 22 at Montessori De Sagrada Familia, Baliwag, Bulacan.
Different students both from public and private schools in Bulacan specifically in the towns of Baliwag, San Rafael, San Ildefonso and San Miguel took part in the review session for the college entrance test.
“I became aware of what college entrance exams would look like. This activity will really help us to develop our critical thinking in taking the entrance test.” Avegail Marie Quinto, a Grade 12 student said.
UP LAKAN is a nonstock and nonprofit organization of Bulakeño students from the University of the Philippines-Diliman that aims to prepare high school students for the different college entrance examinations in the country. Also, it aims to serve the home province selflessly as “Iskolar ng Bayan.”
Mr. Robert Santos, UP LAKAN Academic Affairs Committee said, “Our programs are usually in service of Bulakeños. It is our way to give back to the province since we are students from UP Diliman. The review sessions consist of language, science, math and reading comprehension that would surely help the Grade 12 students in taking college entrance tests.”
“This event will help our Grade 12 students especially in preparing them for college entrance examinations. Through this, they will be acquainted and familiarized with how entrance tests should be answered and what are the scope of such examinations.” Teacher Alyssa Genela De Leon, MDSF High School Guidance Counselor said
Moreover, UP LAKAN organized parlor games, entertainment, and various activities for the students. It becomes an avenue for them to establish rapport and build friendships among the students in different schools in Bulacan.
