“Our seminar ends, your mission begins.”
These are the powerful words left by Mr. Christian E. Jordan, resource speaker, during a seminar that tackled mental health and depression awareness, November 7.
With a topic of “De(Ex)pression: Controlling Emotion, Relieving Stress and Ending Depression”, the Montessori De Sagrada Familia (MDSF) organized a seminar headed by the Counselling and Testing Office as the school’s post celebration of the World Mental Health Day, aiming to educate and expand the knowledge of the students on mental health.
The talk covered several parts including the different stages of depression, factors to consider in identifying if the person is depressed, and possible ways of fighting the stigma.
Mr. Jordan stressed that depression is a serious problem, stating advices on preventing it and catering those who suffer from the case.
“The lesson I want the students to remember is to help people absorb positivity, to have a positive atmosphere,” Jordan said.
Meanwhile, Ms. Jean A. Ortiz, one of the Counseling and Testing officers shared that seminars like this help impart knowledge and awareness for the students’ welfare.
“What I really want the students to learn is to stop the stigma. This seminar will help the students to be more aware of mental health,” Ortiz said.
The institution recently set up a “Positive Freedom Wall” and a “Check-In List” in the high school campus, celebrating the World Mental Health Day last October 10, as part of their campaign of raising mental health awareness.
