“The power to question is the basis of all human progress.” – Indira Gandhi
In a riveting session on June 7, Wednesday, the MDSF Elementary Department delved into the depths of 21st-century learning under the guidance of esteemed guest speaker, Ms. Stephanie Barredo from Keys School Manila. The focal point of the discourse was the transformative concept of inquiry-based learning and the art of questioning, breathing life and meaning into the realm of every instruction.
Furthermore, Ms. Barredo actively sought input from the participants, shedding light on concepts such as station rotation, experiential education, and integrated instruction. Ms. Steph also introduced the concept of the Web Diagram, a powerful tool that enables teachers to identify patterns and regularities in weekly topics, facilitating a cohesive and interconnected curriculum. By recognizing the interplay between lessons, educators can craft relevant questions and a holistic learning experience that transcends individual lessons, promoting a more comprehensive picture of the learning goals.
In an interview with Mr. MJ Veneracion, a newly appointed grade three MAPEH teacher, he candidly shared his initial perception of inquiry-based learning. “I didn’t fully grasp the importance of inquiry-based learning at first. I thought it was just about asking questions. However, after attending the interactive seminar, I gained clarity on the inquiry-based approach and the art of questioning,” he expressed. This testimony highlights the transformative impact of the session with Ms. Steph, giving hope for the future landscape of education this year.
As the MDSF elementary department forges ahead, they instill a passion for lifelong learning, nurturing young minds that will soar high, armed with curiosity, and driven by the transformative power of inquiry. Together, they embark on a journey where boundaries are shattered, and students transcend themselves, forever reaching for the colorful and limitless possibilities that await them.
