Montessori De Sagrada Familia is proud of the accomplishment of one of its alumnae, Nona Diongzon of batch 2010 for her completion in the 4-week exchange student program at the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, St. Petersburg, Russia held last 8 March – 8 April 2018.
Diongzon, who presently studies in St Luke’s College of Medicine, Quezon City, is on her 4th yr, pursuing the degree of Doctor of Medicine. The 24 yr old Sagradan alumna shared in her social media account photos of her activities in the said elective program which exposed her to even deeper understanding of her specialization. During her outside elective, she was able to see a lot of Russian patients and work with them collaboratively. Her involvement in the program also enabled her to observe and assist on quite a number of procedures, both in Ophthalmology and Cardiovascular Surgery; cataract extraction, lens implantation, vitrectomy, capsulorhexis, trabeculectomy, muscle recession for strabismus, Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) Lobectomy, Palma Procedure, Intestinal autotransplant with end to end anastomosis, to name a few.
In an interview, Nona described her Russia trip as an eye-opening experience. It made her realize that her beloved country, the Philippines is being left behind by other nations in terms of providing a systemized and rich health care to its citizens. Instead of getting frustrated, it made her even more inspired to be of service to the patients under her care. She learned the value that her little deeds bring to the health and well being of her patients. It was a validation of God’s calling for her life: to serve and be an instrument of healing to the people.
In a year, Nona will graduate from med school. After graduating, she aims to specialize in surgery and do her residency program in the Philippines, and through God’s will, pursue sub-specialty fellowship program in the USA. The Montessori De Sagrada Familia is very honored and proud to see alumni like Nona soaring high in their profession, bringing glory to God and making a difference in the world.
