Montessori De Sagrada Familia, Inc. returns to the national stage this year as the school publications snag various awards in the recently-concluded Regional Schools Press Conference held last March 21-23 in Balanga City, Bataan.
Aside from duplicating their feat last year in the school paper contest, 18 Sagradan campus journalists won various awards in both individual and team events, contributing to the historical 1st Runner-up finish of SDO Baliwag City on its inaugural participation in the annual regional spectacle, thus sending shockwaves among Central Luzon’s finest.
Veteran sports writer Rency Santos delivered her best finish so far, snatching 2nd Place and now holds the record being the first Sagradan female sports writer earning a podium finish in RSPC.
Alexis Robert Nuesca, last year’s member of the Online Publishing Team, finished 3rd Place in Copyediting and Headline Writing, while senior Jaehee Jang captured 4th Place in Photojournalism to wrap up the individual category achievers.
Moving on to the team events, both composite teams of SDO Baliwag City in Radio Broadcasting and Scriptwriting scored impressive victories as the Filipino and English teams grabbed the 3rd and 4th overall Best Radio Production, respectively. On the other hand, the Online Publishing teams remained perennial contenders as the English team duplicated its 4th Place finish last year in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, while the newly-formed Filipino team came up with a stunning 5th Place finish.
For the school paper contest, both The Sagradan and Ang Sagradan will once again compete with the best of the best of all regions as they again qualified to the National Schools Press Conference which will commence in Vigan, Ilocos Sur this coming May. After being hailed as the 8th Overall Best School Paper of Region 3 last year courtesy of Ang Sagradan, its English counterpart The Sagradan was awarded this year as Central Luzon’s 4th Overall Best School Paper. Its other awards include 4th Place Best Editorial Page and Best in Layout and Page Design, and 2nd Place Best Sports Page, while Ang Sagradan garnered 4th Place in Pinakamahusay na Pahinang Balita and 4th Place in Pinakamahusay na Pahinang Editoryal.
MDSF’s achievements contributed to the overall success of SDO Baliwag City as it grabbed a stellar 1st Runner-up finish behind powerhouse SDO Bulacan. It was indeed an impressive start for the youngest division to ever participate in the regional journalism olympics. With this remarkable feat, SDO Baliwag vows to come back even stronger next year.
This year was also monumental for MDSF as they sent what was considered by far the biggest Sagradan delegation to the RSPC with a combined total of 61 participants for both Grade School and High School levels.
