With the national goal of decreasing the malnutrition in the Philippines, the Department Health (DOH) together with the Department of Education (DepEd) observe Nutrition Month 2018 for the whole month of July.
In line with this, the Elementary Department of Montessori De Sagrada Familia (MDSF) culminated the said celebration of health and wellness in a whole day activity sponsored by the Homemaker’s Club at the school gymnasium.
The said celebration was started by an opening remarks from the Assistant Principal of the Elementary Department, Mrs. Maria Carmela S. Ong. In her speech, she reminded the whole Sagradan community of the value of good health and nutrition in their every day lives.
In addition, the Homemaker’s Club prepared a dance number to entertain the crowd. Also, pupils from grades 1 – 6 danced in a ‘nutrizumba’ led by selected grade 6 pupils. After the zumba, the whole Sagradan community, enjoyed a buffet of nutritious food that were brought by the pupils themselves. They were able to eat healthful puto, clubhouse sandwich, fruits, camote que, banana que, and vegetables salad.
The second part of the program had the pupils compete in coloring contest, quiz bee, and slogan and poster making contest. Moreover, the pupils enjoyed various games in the afternoon.
The Nutrition Month is celebrated every July by the virtue of Presidential Decree No. 491 signed on June 25, 1974 by President Ferdinand Marcos.
This year’s celebration adopts the theme “Ugaliing Magtanim, Wastong Nutrisyon Aanihin”.
