The Sagradan Jr. (TSJ) dominated the first-ever City of Baliwag Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) Elimination Round, securing multiple awards and performing as the highest pointer school in the English category at Mariano Ponce National High School and Baliwag North Central Elementary School on January 21-22.
TSJ journalists claimed champion titles in News Writing, Copyediting and Headline Writing, and Photojournalism. Attasha Rufia Escudero, Gav Andrei De Belen, and Ericaviel Maureese Isaac respectively credited their success to rigorous field work.
“I rarely train myself, but as an associate editor, and through the process of training other participants, I was naturally prepared,” photojournalist Isaac explained.
Titleholder De Belen, on the other hand, emphasized the need for focus ahead of the final round, despite the limited remaining time for training.
“If I work hard, I can still improve,” he said.
TSJ overwhelmingly outscored competitors in the English category, finishing over 100 points ahead of all elementary public and private schools in Baliwag City while also securing the highest points in the Filipino category against their competitors.
Student Publication Adviser Reinlois Felipe attributed the team’s success to their consistent efforts as campus and community journalists, which began as early as July.
“Genuine journalism paid off,” Felipe said.
TSJ will advance 22 student journalists to Phase 2 on January 28, 30, and 31 at G. Dela Merced Memorial School. The team will face Phase 1’s top seven qualifiers in categories such as News Writing, Feature Writing, Column Writing, Science and Technology Writing, Photojournalism, and Copyediting and Headline Writing.
